Dr. Charles F. Weigle - 154TH Birthday
This week we celebrate the 154TH birthday of Dr. Charles Frederick Weigle (1871-1966). Here are 10 facts about him:
- He was born on November 20TH 1871 in Lafayette Indiana.
- He studied music at the University Of Cincinnati Conservatory Of Music during the early-1890s.
- He settled in Southern California for about 20 years during his 20s, 30s, and early-40s.
- He was a Baptist Evangelist and Songwriter.
- He preached God's Good News all across the U.S.A.
- He moved to the brand-new city of Sebring Florida in 1915 when he was 44 at the request of its founder George Eugene Sebring.
- He built his new lakeside house right next door to his best friend George Sebring's house in 1922. (It's our Museum today !)
- He lived here in Sebring full-time for 36 years from 1915 to 1951 - from his mid-40s to his early-80s.
- He wrote over 1,000 hymns.
- His most popular hymn became known worldwide - "No One Ever Cared For Me Like Jesus". He wrote it in 1932 at the age of 61.
