Charles F. Weigle House Museum & Gift Shop 5TH Anniversary
#HistoryTuesday - Tuesday December 16TH 2025
Every Tuesday we spotlight a different historic person, place, or event in our history - sometimes based on the date it occurred.
This week we spotlight our own Charles F. Weigle House Museum & Gift Shop. The historic house - built in 1922 - opened as our Museum exactly 5 years ago this weekend !
It was the afternoon of Saturday December 19TH 2020 when your Sebring Historical Society hosted an Open House to show off our new Museum - all decorated for the Christmas season - with holiday music on the piano and refreshments provided by our volunteers (photo below). It was a beautiful sight to see !
Our Museum was formerly located below the Sebring Public Library - comingled with our office space and archives. (It is now our current Archives Center.)
It started with that Saturday July 25TH 2020 Quarterly Membership Luncheon when it was announced that the Sebring Historical Society would be partnering with the City Of Sebring to take over the "Yellow House" on Lakeview Drive. It continued 12 days later on Thursday August 06TH 2020 when the lease was signed for the "Weigle House" by Mike Jarvis, President of our Board Of Directors at the time. The key was presented to Mike by Lenard Carlisle, Jr., Sebring City Council Chairman.
After many cleanings and renovations of the historic house - our volunteers began moving many of our displays and artifacts across the big parking lot and up the hill from our original location. 4½ months later - we hosted our Open House - 6 days before Christmas.
We thank the 12 Board Of Directors (listed in alphabetical order) for making all of this possible: Kim Albritton, Pat Cogswell, John DeYoung, Mike Jarvis, Vicki Jarvis, Joshua Klatt, Howie Kubsch, Bobby Lee, Terry Mendel, Doug Morton, Jim Pollard, and Mike Taylor.
Our current Board Of Directors and volunteers are proud to continue what was started exactly 5 years ago this weekend.
Happy 5TH Anniversary to our Charles F. Weigle House Museum & Gift Shop !
