North Ridgewood & Santa Rosa Hotel - 100 Years Ago
#HistoryTuesday - Tuesday February 03RD 2026

From our Archives from 100 years ago - a group of local area pioneers are taking a photo break along North Ridgewood Drive - heading towards our Circle. Notice some kids taking advantage of some shade underneath the trees.

The top of the 3-story Santa Rosa Hotel peaks up above the trees lining Ridgewood. Built in 1923 and opened in 1924 - it looks brand-new with what appears to be a temporary sign atop its red-brick south-facing facade. (The building was topped-off in 1926.)

The hotel stood at 509 North Ridgewood for 101 years until just 14 months ago when it was demolished. The site of the photograph appears to face where Mae Lee's Deli and its parking lot sits today.

Our Sebring Historical Society was interested in buying the hotel in late-2019 / early-2020 to preserve and renovate it via fundraising and grant money. We would have eventually moved into it, but the owners at the time wanted much more money than its appraised value. Our offer was ultimately rejected.
