On March 03RD 1845 the U.S. territory of Florida became the 27TH state. It was a territory that was acquired from Spain in 1819, and then it was formally transferred to the U.S. in 1821. A state constitution was drafted in 1838, and it was approved in 1839.
Florida became a state on President John Tyler's last full day in office. (The Presidential Inauguration was previously held on March 04TH from 1793 to 1933.)

Florida's first official population (1850) - 87,445
After Florida - Texas became the 28TH state later in 1845.
