The Sebring Hotel
#HistoryTuesday - Tuesday July 07TH 2026

The painting below was recently gifted to your Sebring Historical Society, and we love it. It's now hanging proudly on our living room wall in our Charles F. Weigle House Museum & Grayce's Gift Shop. It inspired this week's edition of #HistoryTuesday on the historic Sebring Hotel.

It was constructed by Harry Orvel Sebring - the youngest son of George Eugene Sebring. Together they founded and developed our city of Sebring.

The Sebring Hotel (also known in its early years as "The Sebring" and "Hotel Sebring") was built at the corner of Oak Avenue and South Ridgewood Drive. It was a popular place for both visitors and residents alike from the late-1920s through the late-1950s. It hosted teatime every afternoon and post-church Sunday afternoon music recitals in its main lobby. It was the place to be to experience the "Sebring Pipe Organ". During World War II military personnel from Hendricks Field went to the hotel during their off-duty time for conversation, food, drinks, and entertainment with their dates.

In 1961 the hotel was converted into the Palms Nursing Home. It was renamed as "The Palms At Sebring" in 1977. It continued its physical expansion around the original hotel which was demolished in 1985. After 65 years The Palms continues to serve and home many of our neighbors here in downtown Sebring - within eyesight of our museum.
