Coming up on its 29TH anniversary soon at its current location within Sun 'N Lake is AdventHealth Sebring. It is our largest and busiest hospital here in Highlands County with over 200 beds. It is our # 2 employer (after The School Board of Highlands County).
For almost 50 years Walker Memorial Sanitorium And Hospital (and later Walker Memorial Hospital and eventually Florida Hospital Walker) served the northwestern part of Highlands County in Avon Park along the northeastern shore of Lake Lillian. It was housed in the former Highlands Lakes Hotel And Casino Resort that was open for several years from 1927 until about 1930.
It moved to its brand-new modern $50 million state-of-the-art facility in 1997 - officially opening on September 14TH 1997. It opened as Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center. As 2019 began it was rebranded to its current AdventHealth name, and that applied to all of the facilities under the Florida Hospital name.
Sitting on 86 acres of land - AdventHealth Sebring continues to expand outward and upward with new construction on new buildings. A current $130 million expansion is ongoing, and that includes their new cardiovascular and bed tower.
