Fairmount Plaza

Over along U.S. 27 - northbound - just past Publix (or what we locals refer to as "North Publix") - it's the Fairmount Plaza (3750 U.S. Highway 27 North). It's been there for the past 40 years, and its biggest attraction was the movie theatre. That original Floyd Theatres actually opened exactly 40 years ago a few days ago. It served our community - later as Carmike and B & B - until just 3½ years ago in February 2023.

It supported the many businesses that were located in the Fairmount Plaza - especially the restaurant at the north-end.

We believe that some of these restaurants will jog your memories - good - and perhaps not so good - of those afternoons and evenings when you went to see one of the top movies of the day - and then went out to eat after. (Maybe you did the reverse - dinner and then a movie.)

Sitting at Suite "2A" in the Fairmount Plaza in the beginning was the Fairmount Family Restaurant. After that it became Sweetwater Cafe during the '90s. And then it was Yianni's Prime Choice for 8½ years. And then it was Dino's Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria for a brief time - before it was Sebring Bar & Grill and Fairmount Bar & Grill and Deep South Bar & Grill.

It is now THE CELLAR GRILLE, and it's been open now since the start of 2025.

And of course - the most pressing question of the week is this:

What is the difference between "Fairmount" and Fairmont" ?

The difference is that "Fairmount" is the correct spelling, and "Fairmont" has always been misspelled - on ads, and maps, and even physical signage. Even Publix thinks they are in the "Fairmont" neighborhood of Sebring, but legally they are really in the "Fairmount" neighborhood.

But most locals don't care. They just know where the "North Publix" is - as well as that strip shopping center to the north of it - where that nice restaurant is - and where Maryland Fried Chicken used to be - and that nice Thai place - and of course Fairmount cafe - a favorite place for lunch (and soon) dinner.
