St. Catherine

During the 1910s and into the early-1920s our founder George Eugene Sebring saw the need for a Catholic church in his young town. Catholic priests were traveling by horseback and car from 80 miles away in Tampa to lead Mass in various homes in and around downtown Sebring. Even the Kenilworth Lodge hosted church services.
Mr. Sebring donated land (just as he had done for all other churches in his town) on Hickory Street between Franklin Street and Poinsettia Avenue. St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church was built in 1923 and completed and opened in 1924 - named for St. Catherine of Siena. (Siena is the capital city of the province of Siena located within the Tuscany region of Italy.)
Father Patrick O'Brien led the church in the beginning.
The photo below shows the current church building under construction and nearing completion in 1978. A new rectory and parish hall were completed in the couple of years thereafter.
Father José González currently leads St. Catherine (https://www.stcathe.org/), as he has done for the past 21½ years. Services are held 7 days a week with Mass on Sundays at 8 AM and 10 AM with a 12 Noon service en Español.
