Last week we wrote about ourselves, as we enter our 60TH year as your Sebring Historical Society. And last Wednesday we wrote about our close connection to your Sebring Public Library.
By the late-1980s your Sebring Public Library had outgrown its home of the previous 20 years. They began planning an ambitious expansion in-place supported by local funds and matching State and Federal grants.
Down the hill behind the existing building the ground was excavated, foundations were poured, and walls were formed for the new two-story building. Meanwhile - an extension was built between the existing building and the upper-floor of the new building to connect the two.
In 1990 your Sebring Historical Society moved into that new lower-level of the building, and the Public Library expanded its operations into the newly created space above us on the upper-level.
That was our Archives Center and our Museum for 30 years from 1990 to 2020 until we acquired the yellow house across the parking lot from the Public Library. We know that yellow house today as our Charles F. Weigle House Museum & Grayce's Gift Shop.
And that lower-level of the Sebring Public Library is still our Archives Center, and it serves as our administrative office.
